What The Worlds Need (By Mona Lyn D. Alamrines – Staff Member)

In the last sentence from an article that was published in the local press in Saudi Arabia entitled “Imagine A World Without Filipinos”, the author Abdullah Al-Maglooth wrote “We have to remember that we are much dependent on the Filipinos around us. We could die a slow death if they chose to leave us”.

These heartwarming sentiments gave a deep impact to all Filipinos who were a deep impact to all Filipinos who were able to read it, especially those who are working in the Middle East. The article simply depicts Filipinos as assets to Arab nation and the value we give to the world. It is such an honor to receive such good credit and reputation from a Moslem writer.

The Philippines is an archipelago with more than 7,107 islands. Going back to our history, the Philippines were once inhabited by different people coming from different places. The pioneers are believed to be the Aetas, the Malays and the Indonesians. Looking back to our geography and ethnicity, it can be noted that Filipinos are natural-born transporters traveling from one place to another whenever the need arises. And having been moved with different blood lines perhaps is a big factor why us, Filipinos, are known for our ability to assimilate into different cultures of other countries.

This exceptional characteristic of us Filipinos, makes us excel in whatever field of endeavor we take and thus we reap various international recognition for the way we perform our duties while fighting the challenges of living in strange cultures. The indispensable contributions that Filipinos provide to the world made me believe that indeed, the world need us Filipinos

What the world needs are Filipinos simply because:

  • The Obamas and the most important personalities in the White House enjoy sumptuous meal everyday
  • Prince Charles and Prince Harry grew up as better individuals, fighting against racism and serving their people and the rest of the world.
  • The NASA has scientists who allocate tremendous contributions in space programs and researches.
  • The Vatican City successfully fulfills its mission of spreading the good News all over the world with the help of missionaries who often act as front liners of remote posts as well as provide basic social services.
  • The U.S. navy and armed forces have tough leaders ever ready to embark into a battlefield and fight against the terrorist.
  • Hongkong, Singapore, Middle East and other countries have the best helpers who maintain the tidiness of their homes and take good care of their children.
  • The oil companies in the middle East can maneuver continuously because they have the best engineers working in their fields, including their industrious drivers who endure the heat of the sun and the wilderness of the desert.
  • The student from the foreign schools and other institutions can easily learn the English language because they have linguistics and professional educators teaching them the right way.
  • The patients in different health institutions such as clinics, homes for the aged and the hospitals have these caregivers, doctors and nurses who give special touch extra attention, patience and willingness to stay a few hours when needed even after their desired duty.
  • Services establishment such as airports, casinos, hotels. restaurants, cruise ships, and supermarkets receive excellent customer satisfaction because they have the best key staff involved in management and maintenance not to mention of course the best hospitality and entertainment they can offer to their patrons.
  • Commercial and business enterprises flourish because they have accountants, consultants, cashiers, encoders and sales clerks who serve them with all honestly and integrity.
  • Large infrastructures, buildings and highest skyscrapers from all over the world stand firm with the help of brave construction workers, and engineers. This is of course, with the teamwork being exerted by the draftsmen and architects who skillfully burn the midnight oil in able to come up with excellent plans.
  • Different shipping industries can comply with IMO policies because they have the best crew on board. Moreover, the trading of goods and services from port to port runs smoothly.

Today, we have around 10 million Filipino workers all over the wold. This means that almost 11% of our population are working abroad from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, leaving their loved ones and their country instead. So contrary to what had been published in a dictionary few years back defining Filipinos as international maids or servants, my own definition of Filipino is an excellent international worker ever ready to serve the rest of the world to whatever cause it may be.

Indeed, Filipinos are well trained to offer the best quality of services they can give to the rest of the world. But what about the other nationalities that would be deprived of the excellent services only Filipinos can give? Perhaps, they can send their people to be trained in the Philippines by excellent Filipino trainers.
